Tampa Bay faced the Yankees on Sunday morning and the show began with a terrific play by Randy Arozarena who stole 2nd, 3rd, and scored after the Yankees' defense made a series of wild throws.
This did not sit well with the Yankees while they are currently in last place of the American League East, and that seemed to have added a lot of pressure to pitcher Albert Abreu who hit Arrozarena in the Bottom of the 8th, prompting both benches to clear and defend the Mexican player.
Arozarena steals 2nd, 3rd, and Home
The bottom line is that there is a lot of bad blood between the Yankees and the Rays as this is not the first time Arozarena has been hit by members of the Bombers, just this game, it was the fourth Tampa Bay player that was hit during the game, and the sixth of the three-game series, which is why when Arozarena got hit, all hell broke loose.
Fortunately, both teams avoided any violence, and when separated, Arozarena went to the base and then continued to steal second and third base.
Right after that, Arozarena taunted Abreu, making the Yankees furious and clearing the bench again. No fists were thrown either.
Arozarena eventually scored when Brandon Lowe smacked Abreu's pitch producing an impressive double, giving Arozarena the perfect opportunity to have the last laugh and score right in front of Abreu.
The game ended with the Rays beating the Yankees 7-4, and as things progress, this will be the last time they will see each other until next season.
The Yankees are freefalling in the scoreboard and standings as they have been 2-8 in the last 10 games, making their future look grim even with all their efforts.
