A man has been charged after allegedly killing a woman in Melbourne’s west earlier this month.
Emergency services were called to a Grevillea Crescent home in Hoppers Crossing just after 1pm on August 3 following reports of a disturbance.
According to Victoria Police, responding officers located a 51-year-old man with serious injuries behaving “erratically”.
After a further search of the property, an “unresponsive” woman was discovered in the home who later died at the scene.
The woman has since been confirmed as a 40-year-old from Darley, in Bacchus Marsh, about 40km northwest of Hoppers Crossing, and the pair are believed to be known to each other.
On Thursday afternoon, a lawyer representing Mark Ludbrook appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court after police confirmed he had been charged with the woman’s murder.
He told the court his client remained in hospital under police guard with what’s believed to be “self-inflicted” injuries and had no issue with the case proceeding in his absence.
The lawyer said Mr Ludbrook was expected to be transported to a secure prison hospital this week.
No application for bail was made and he was remanded into custody until his next court appearance in December.
