Ryan Reynolds had made it fashionable for Hollywood actors to support non-league football teams in Britain but his former co-star Dwayne Johnson has clearly been swayed by the allure of Anfield.

The WWE legend sat down in a wide-ranging interview with talkSPORT to promote his next movie, Black Adam.

And the former defensive tackle for the University of Miami was asked by our reporter Sam Ellard if he had any allegiances to football on this side of the pond.

The Rock told talkSPORT: "Do I support a team? Yes. You know the One. The pride of Cheshire.

To which Ellard replied: "Liverpool?" and the Rock confirmed: "Yes, Liverpool."

Jurgen Klopp's side already have a number of celebrity supporters from Daniel Craig, LeBron James, Samuel L Jackson...and Jake Paul.

Yet Macclesfield - who relaunched back in 2020 after being expelled from the National League - were quick to lay the SmackDown on the Rock for his shocking betrayal.

The Silkmen reminded the Great One of a tweet he made in 2011 in which he wrote: "Damn right! Macclesfield is my team. The pride of Cheshire!"

The social media post was in reference to an appearance that year on Soccer AM in which the Rock revealed his love for Macclesfield and their director of football Robbie Savage.

He said: "Do I have a message for my people of Macclesfield? Yeah the message is always I thank them so much for their love and support and every time I go back there the amount of love I get really moves me!.

"We're the pride of Cheshire, but I think we've lost our last five games in a row."

Fast forward to his 2022 sit-down with talkSPORT, the Rock had turned heel on Macclesfield in favour of being in Liverpool's corner.

That could prove to be a problem with his burgeoning relationship with Tyson Fury who supports arch-rivals Manchester United, and could also buy Morecambe.

But The Rock already proved he'll toss transatlantic relations out of the ring when discussing the USA's chances at the World Cup.

The Rock was asked whether he'd take qualifying second in Group B in Qatar behind England and hilariously responded: "F*** all that!

"What'd you mean second place?! I don't want that, I don't want number two.

So you want number one yeah? "A kid can dream!"
