You know him from his roles as Superman. Dean Cain became a household name in the 90s when he starred as the famous superhero, Superman, alongside Teri Hatcher on the hit television show, Lois & Clark. Today, he’s busy with several other roles, including his favorite role; father. The actor recently opened up about something many parents struggle with, but few dads actually talk about.
Single parenting is difficult work for anyone, but it’s not necessarily something you hear much about from fathers. It’s a job that many single moms do on a daily basis, and single dads don’t get much notice for their role. Cain, however, was happy to open up about the struggles of being a single father to his now 14-year-old son.
It was big news in 2003 when Cain and his ex-wife went through a very public, and very difficult, custody battle over their son. In 2011, a judge granted Cain sole custody of his son, Christopher.
“He’s my favorite person on the whole planet. Stability-wise, this is what’s best for him,” he says of his role as single dad to his beloved son. He goes on to say that it’s a big job, and not always an easy one, going from the set of his show Hit the Floor to school meetings and field trips, but that he’s learned all his decisions have to center around his son’s needs, and that his son always comes first.
As if though being a great dad and a handsome actor isn’t enough to win hearts, Cain also spends a lot of time taking care of his ex-wife’s three-year old twins (who do not belong to him), Isabelle and Elijah.
“I’d do anything for those two…it can be defined as a broken home, but if you hang out at our house that’s the last thing you’ll think,” the twins come by often to visit their big brother because it’s important for Cain that his son is close to his half-siblings.
